DECREASING PROPERTY RATES NEAR
CENTRAL JAIL DUE TO JAMMERS

In our today’s life mobile networks is our basic necessity. If we want to
order food we need networks, if we need ambulance we need networks, if we want
to contact someone we need networks. In any type of emergency we need networks
to get first aid. And when we decide to buy a house or rent a house we check
some basic necessities like water supply, electricity etc. But now there is an
addition in it and that is mobile networks.
There are 25 jails in Sindh. Five central jails, 11 district jails, four
women jails, four juvenile jails and one open prison. The central jails are
located in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad and Khairpur.
In Densely populated areas of Hyderabad like Hirabad, kalhora colony,
journalist colony, Mubarak housing society, Baldia colony etc. Life became
really difficult due to jammers in Central jail.
“The property rates have been decreased by 30% in rents, and 50% in
buying.” Mr.Akbar Khoja ex-chairman of Mubarak housing society. People are migrating
from the colony because of networks problems.
The ex-residents of this society Dr. Imran Khowaja said “I am a surgeon I
have to be available all the time but the network’s problem my patients are
disturbed. That is why I left this place.”
There is good online taxi service available but the people who lives near
the central jail are not able to take this advantage because this service works
online they need networks to use internet but due to jammers their service does
not work here.
An online taxi service driver said we were having good business from
these areas before but after jammers our customers are not able to contact us
to book our service and if they do we are not able to find their location that
is why we have to cancel the ride. Before mobile phones the telephones were
common but after mobile phones people use this service rarely and not everyone
can afford it. And it is inappropriate because we can not keep telephone with
us everywhere.
The chairman of the nearby colonies said that too many houses are empty
no one wants to buy or rent the house because there are no networks service
available.
This problem is not only in this area there is the same situation in
other cities of Pakistan where central jails located. Thousands of people are
affected of these jammers. But now the Sindh government has decided to remove
mobile phone jammers from central jails across the province. Now, residents of
the surrounding areas would not have to leave the neighborhood to make calls.
Prisons Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said, all dangerous prisoners will be
shifted to a single jail far from cities. The only jail that will have jammers
will be the one in which these prisoners are kept.
