Most Pakistanis when asked about anxiety would say that, it is a mental illness which comes from stressing too much about the future. But its not the real and true explanation of what anxiety really is. Anxiety is the reaction of our bodies to situations where we have to fight or flee. Consder an ancient human being in middle of a forest and he sees a tiger, staring right at him, at that moment his body feels peek anxiety. his brain instantly signals his body to turn off all the other unnecessary functions and provide blood to his muscles to fight and his pupils grow and focus narrows so he can focus on the tiger. Functions like saliva production, the urge to have sex, digestion or urination go on a temporary pause. 
So anxiety sounds like a helpful emotion, doesn’t it ? but the reality is that we don’t face any tigers in real life, so why do we feel anxiety in our daily life? Humans are a complex being they find reasons to worry about. The anxiety that was triggered in a an ancient human by seeing a tiger is today triggered by other reasons such as , loans, responsibilities, career, relationships.  The stress we feel is actually a version of uncontrolled anxiety. If you examine the symptoms of stress and anxiety, they are quite similar. 
Anxiety is bad for you when you develop an anxiety disorder. When you don’t know how to handle your anxiety. How to shape it and channel it to use it to your advantage. There is a large number of people who suffer from anxiety today. Nearly 30 percent of the total population of the world suffers from anxiety. 
There are different types of anxiety disorders. But the most common kind of anxiety is social anxiety. Being stressed about social situations. Being afraid of being judged, avoiding social gatherings and selective mutism are some examples of social anxiety. You feel like falling , have panic attacks. A panic attack is like a burst of social anxiety and the worst part is that it is coming out of no visible reason. 
The biggest reason of social anxiety today is said to be social media. Everyone one is spending more and more time on social media now. On social media you see and feel like everyone is living their best lives, people are going on vacations, getting married, getting their job or biuying a house and you have not achieved any of it. That feeling of being left out is a building block of social anxiety. Social media is like a car, a car that has been invented and it has totally taken over the citys routes , everyone is driving one  but we are still to discover it seatbelt. For a person with severe anxiety disorders, social media can be a curse.
There have been several attempts to test the cure for these anxiety disorders. Some of the most effectives ones are, exercising, using or channeling that anxious energy by doing some physical exercise. Meditation, training your mind to be peaceful, to be at peace even in situations which otherwise could cause panic and anxiety. Therapy, talking to a psychological expert about your anxiety and getting to the root of your anxiety and then uprooting it. 
Out of all these options to cure anxiety disorders, therapy has proven to be the most successful one. But the problem is that even in todays modern world only 1 out of 10 people with anxiety disorder have access to a therapist. Specially in paksitan the problem is the lack of psychologists and the stigma around consulting a therapist. People find it humiliating and offensive if they are told that they have a mental disorder or they need therapy. But even if they wanted to consult a therapist, it is very expensive. Due to the shortage of therapists. There 1 therapist per 500000 people in Pakistan. 
The solution to overcoming any form of anxiety is taking to a maximum level and then feel what that anxiety brings to you other than just unnecessary stress. Once you find out that even on the peak of that anxiety, nothing bad has happened, this is when you learn to overcome your fears and anxieties.
