HISTORY OF NARA CANAL
One day I was visiting my village fields with my cousin, I wanted to swim in the canal, so we went at Nara canal (where? location? when?).  My cousin warned me that several crocodiles and big tortoise are also present in Nara Canal. I was afraid because I never saw the crocodile at open ground. Suddenly, birds flew and I felt there is something  in bushes  and  it is coming to us through the water.  I saw heavy massed reptile that was a crocodile then we ran away from that place but after a week I saw dead body of same crocodile.
I have heard many stories about the Nara canal. There is perception in localties  that nara canal is made by a snake and a JOGI. They say snake was running and jogi was following that snake in the end they both vanished and  a river was made. We can see zigzag map of canal from the google earthe But I think that is not reality but a myth. The other name of of nara canal is DHORO which means a natural river. Rotations on nara canal occurs in every year due to shortage of water. People catches thousand fishes from the nara canal and the fresh fishes of this canal are very famous in all over sindh. I saw many times huge tortoises in this canal  my uncle says his several goats were hunted by crocodiles and a long time ago our villager was hunted by crocodile and never found his body. Now come to know more true about this canal.
In fact, Nara canal is not man made canal, it was spread out from foothills of sutelaj. Nara canal is an only canal in pakistan where thousands of crocodiles are living here in nara canal I think it is not common thing because there is no any canal is situated in paksitan where aquatic  animals can alive safely. Nara canal is the oldest canal of Sindh, Pakistan. It is supporter channel of Indus river. It originates from the sukkur barrage. It passes through lands and desert. A long time ago it was dumped in the great Runn of Kutchh. Nara Canal is also called sanctuary of crocodiles.
Thousands years of ago, when Indus civilization had been living on  the bank of Indus river that time there was a sarsvati river which flew from Thar, Sindh. Sarsvati and ghaghar were twins rivers of Haakro river todays Nara canal. then geographical system changed and sarsvati river  dried and it changed in HAKRO CANAL which is now nara canal.
According to an archeologist MUHAMMAD RAFIQ MUGHAL it dried up at latest in 1900 BC. it passes from several districts of sindh and its sign can be found in Sindh areas such as Khairpur, Nawabshah, Sanghar and Tharparkar Districts.
Its chief branch is Jamrao canal. It is longest canal in pakistan, it is only one canal in pakistan which is not  straight it flows in zigzag type. Now the distance of this canal is 133 kilometers and about twenty lacks acres of lands are irrigated by this canal.
Bhahawalpur state constructed bacha bunds or safety bunds by thousands slavers to protect their lands against floods and spillovers which reduced the flood intensities into the nara canal because it runs only when heavy rains and thunder storms floods were happening that time. Many times it was dried during low flows in Indus river then it excavated directly to indus river in 18th century by a further of 3 feet. In December 2002, chotiari dam was constructed for discharge the saline water and it is also fed by tributaries by nara canal and it is also wetland and habitat for birds, reptiles, small mammals and wild animals.
After passing through these things The nara canal drains in lake which is situated near india-pakistan border. As when it pass from umerkot district or its lower reaches it is called DHORO NAARO.
It all means this canal is koh - e - noor of pakitan.

NARA CANAL DELTA CHANNEL OF SINDH
Nara canal is the oldest canal of Sindh, Pakistan. It is supporter channel of Indus river. It originates from the sukkur barrage. It passes through lands and desert. A long time ago it was dumped in the great Runn of Kutchh. Nara Canal is also called sanctuary of crocodiles.
Thousands years of ago, when Indus civilization had been living on the bank of Indus river that time there was a sarsvati river which flew from Thar, Sindh. Sarsvati and ghaghar were twins rivers of Haakro river today’s Nara canal. then geographical system changed and ghaghra and sarsvati river were defunct remains of mythological of sarsvati, fed by Himalayan fed river which changes their course due to tectonics then sarsvati river  dried and it changed in HAKRO CANAL which is now nara canal.
The Hakro canal is the dried out channel situated near Fort Abbas City in Pakistan. It is the continuation of the Ghaggar River in India. Several times, but not continuously. According to an archeologist MUHAMMAD RAFIQ MUGHAL it dried up at latest in 1900 BC, it carried the water of the Sutlej  during the Bronze Age period. Many early other settlements of the Indus Valley Civilizations have been found in this area. Hakra Ware culture is believed to be the earliest pre-Harappan culture. Many early settlements are found along the river beds in this area. Hakra or Hakro Darya streamed through Sindh and its sign can be found in Sindh areas such as Khairpur, Nawabshah, Sanghar and Tharparkar Districts.
Nara canal passes from several districts of sindh Khairpur, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot  it’s chief branch is Jamrao canal. It is longest canal in pakistan, Now the distance of this canal is 133 kilometers and about twenty lacks acres of lands are irrigated by this canal.
Bhahawalpur state constructed bacha bunds or safety bunds by thousands slavers to protect their lands against floods and spillovers which reduced the flood intensities into the nara canal because it  runs only when heavy rains and thunder storms floods were happening that time. Many times it was dried during low flows in Indus river then it excavated directly to indus river in 18th century by a further of 3 feets. In December 2002, chotiari dam was constructed for discharge the saline water and it is also fed by tributaries by nara canal and it is also wetland and habitat for birds, reptiles, small mammals and wild animals.
After passing through these things The nara canal drains in lake which is situated near india-pakistan border. As when it pass from umerkot district or its lower reaches it is called DHORO NAARO.
But Now it is destroying its history and structure only because of recklessly of irrigation and wild department. People are stealing illegal water from Nara canal with the help of under cover pipes, now it cannot drains in lower reaches areas, the lower areas are totally dried. People hunts illegally many innocent crocodiles  only for their entertainment, corrupt officers of both departments are watching silently like watch dog only because of black money paying by people. Both departments and govt should have to take action about these illegal crimes to save this lovely and historical canal and secure thousands innocent crocodiles and other aquatic animals.
